Starting Off

We all have to begin somewhere, right?

I've been collecting out of print Warhammer models for a long time now. The interest for me started in high school, which is 10 years ago at this point.

What kicked this whole thing off in the first place? I started playing Warhammer 40k in 4th edition, which seems like a lifetime ago. I began with the plastic Cadians, since the Imperial Guard interested me a lot, and everyone else seemed to be playing Space Marines. In some thread on Warseer, (also a distant memory at this point) someone posted about the older metal Cadians from 2nd edition, and how they looked better than the current plastic Cadians. He was right, the plastic ones looked like football players more than soldiers.

Anyway, it kicked off the rabbit hole of me learning about previous editions of Warhammer (and grognards always love to talk about older editions being better). I'm a sucker for 80's fantasy and sci-fi, so the passion was born. I read through PDFs of Rogue Trader and Slaves to Darkness and Warhammer Fantasy, and I became more and more interested in these models.

My first "Oldhammer" purchases were 4 Chaos Space Marines and RTB01 Marines. At this point I was playing Chaos Space Marines, so it made sense. I loved the bio-mechanical, twisted armor of the Chaos Marines.

Here's a photo of my first "Frenzied Four". These paint jobs aren't exactly anything amazing but I'm still happy enough about them.
I painted each model with a different color scheme, but kept to the old background of how each World Eater had their right pauldron painted red.

My favorite lines of the older models are:
-Imperial Guard
-Space Marines
-Eldar
-Dark Elves (Naismith and Marauder)

Anyway, that's it for now. I'm working on a Dark Elf army, and I'll probably be posting some other stuff too, like some Eldar that need to get stripped and painted.
